Bhumihars are a Hindu caste mainly found in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Nepal. Bhumihars are also known as Bhumihar Brahmin. In Bihar, Bhumihar is also called Babhan or Bhuinhar.
Until the 20th Century, Bhumihars were a land-owning community who had nine small princely states and zamindari estates. Bhumihars also played important role in peasant movements of India.
Bhumihar Brahmin Surnames:-

- Rai - Bhumihars of the Eastern Uttar Pradesh use this Rai surname.

- Tiwari - Many Bhumihars in UP and Bihar use this Tiwari surname.
- Ojha - Villages in Chhapara and Muzaffarpur use Ojha surname.
- Mishra - Bhumihars from Chhapra and Madhubani use Mishra surname.
- Singh- Bhumihars who own large lands have Singh Surname.
- Pandey -Many Bhumihars use Pandey surname.
- Shahi - Many Bhumihars use Shahi surname.

ReplyDeleteThen why he came to Bhagalpur in their brother marriage. His father was in army so due to which he born in Chandigarh brought up in Jabalpur and Chennai but their roots are from Bihar. Even her wife is a Bengali Brahmin but not sure she is bhumihar Brahmin or else.
